Citizens Police Academy

I have been officially signed up for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Departments "Citizens Police Academy." This does not mean I am in the police academy, rather it means that I get to learn about the local police procedures and get an understanding of what they go through on a daily basis, as well as learning the different divisions that I could choose from. or as it says on the site:

The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is a 12-week program which gives our community members first-hand information on the role of police officers in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

I will get to go on a ride along as well as take a firearms training. Both of which I can hardly wait for. From the LVMPD site, it lists what I can expect in the class:

  • Department Organization and Ethics
  • Overview of the Legal System - Criminal/Constitutional Law
  • Use of Force - Patrol Procedures
  • Gangs - Dangerous Drugs
  • Police Employees Assistance Program
  • Firearms Training, SWAT and K-9 Demonstrations
  • Air Support - Homicide
  • Traffic/DWI Enforcement - Public Information Office/Media Relations
  • Clark County Detention Center Tour
So, starting August 29th I will be taking a class once a week, in which I get an in depth understanding of what I hope to become. This will help me decide what field I want to go into. I have always wanted to be a detective. I wouldn't mind working Major Case, Homicide, Fraud Unit, High Tech Crime, or even Anti-Terrorism. I can only thank my fiance Kelly for signing me up for the class online. Without her and her support, I wouldn't be here.

Sounds fun... But I hope it's not a cult, and they try to brainwash you...
